Gardening is one of those activities that for some folk is the absolute limit of their endurance – they can just about bring themselves to mow the lawn and maybe tidy up the rubbish areas but as for actual planting things . . . well that is far beyond their interest level. For others, being out in the garden is the sole point of their existence – particularly if they have a good plot with a nicely shaped and conditioned lawn. That does make all the difference to how someone approaches their gardening. To me, a well shaped and fairly weed free lawn sets off all the borders and makes it worth the effort of try to keep a constant supply of colour, however limited at times. I’ve not got the strength these days to dig the borders so I have plenty of maturing shrubs that are pruned and in the gaps during the seasons, I infill with pots of different plants – dahlias or lillies, crocosmia etc. depending on the height and colour I need for that purpose. Never under estimate a quickly propogated plant in a pot!
